I have a dream(s)

Correct me if I’m wrong, but most people fall in love with people they’ve, you know, actually met. Right?
They develop crushes because of appearance. Or personality. Or shared values.
Me?

I do things like read a book and decide to marry the author. Who, in this case, would be Tim Tebow.

Don’t laugh. This is for real, people.
I know, I know–the only things I know about football are what I’ve read in Susan May Warren‘s The Great Christmas Bowl.
But I’m telling you, Tim Tebow’s book sucked me in. Which is saying a lot for a fiction junkie. And I am convinced I would make a stellar Mrs. Tebow. Here’s why:
  • In the book, he talks about how if he and his siblings memorized their Bible verses each week, they got to watch MacGuyver on the weekend. Awesome, MacGyver was one of the very, very few shows I was allowed to watch growing up.
  • Blue and green are my favorite colors. Blue is one of both the Gators’ and the Broncos’ colors. And one of the Jets’ colors is dark green. Obviously that’s a sign from God.
  • Though I’ve never been to the Philippines (where he was born and has gone on missions trips), once a guy from the Philippines proposed to me. No joke. So I’ve got connections.
  • I love to wear scarves and warm boots and cute hats in autumn. Going to all those NFL games would give me such good occasion to wear fun fall wear.
  • If he ever wanted to write another book, how convenient to have a writer for a wife!
  • I wouldn’t have to get used to a new last initial.
Pretty sure I’m only scratching the surface here of all the myriad reasons we belong together.
There’s just one tiny glitch in this newly realized dream–the fact that I’ve got another fairly big dream which gulps down a lot of my time. The whole writing thing, yeah? And I just don’t know if I have the time, the mental fortitude, the audacity to pursue both.

Or could I?

Here’s where you come in. I need help…and a plan. So let’s take a vote. Here are your choices:
A) You’re a writer, Melissa. Put all your focus there. You’ll be happy when your books take over the publishing world. Leave Tim Tebow to likes of Lolo Jones or his so-called secret girlfriend.
B) Go for the quarterback! True love trumps all. Take a class in celebrity stalking and while you’re at it, learn the basics of football. It couldn’t hurt.
C) Forget both. It’d be so much easier to follow your third lifelong dream–becoming an ice cream taste tester.
D) You can have it all! Become a famous writer and nab the football star. Go for the total touchdown. To mix a metaphor and quote another famous athlete, “Never let fear of striking out get in your way.” (Babe Ruth)
Okay, will you help a girl out? Will you vote? Will you let your voice be heard on this important issue? (And if you vote B or D, I could use some creative ideas for making this happen!)
p.s. Yes, I realize this is a ridiculous and somewhat self-centered blog post. Please forgive me. And realize that sometimes a girl just runs out of legit topics.
p.p.s. All joking aside, Through My Eyes is seriously a good book. One I’d read again and recommend to others. It inspired me to keep working hard toward my own dreams.

p.p.p.s. And depending on today’s vote, who knows which dream I’ll be working harder at!

    1. I vote for D! And guess what…I know his mama …well I spoke to her one time when she came to speak at our church. But that should count for something. I could introduce you to her and once she sees you’re the perfect choice for her son…well the possibilities are endless, don’tcha think?

    2. D! D!

Um, no creative ideas except pray really hard. 😛

You’d be perfect together. You’d make cute babies. That’s all that matters.

But definitely do NOT pick B or C. You are too good of a writer to give it up. Ever. Plus, I need someone to talk me off a ledge every now and then, or once a week.

      1. Aww, thanks, Linds. Even if I do go the ice cream taste testing route or run off to NYC and forget all the writing craziness, I will always be here to talk you off the ledge. 🙂

    3. I say D. I mean come on, shoot for the stars girl, what have you got to lose? 😉 After all if Brenda Warner can do it, why can’t you?

      1. Brenda Warner! I love her! I’m a Warner fan ever since they got involved in our ministry last year. 🙂 Well, and I wouldn’t be a good Iowa girl if I didn’t love them.

    4. D – buy yourself some season tickets, don your cute hat, scarf and mitts, and head out to New York for some “research”…you know, for that book you’re gonna write where your hero is a homeschooling boy gone to play football in the big city and this reporter girl–who’s secretly in love with him, but won’t admit it–happens to get assigned writing a story on him and they fall madly in love…
(I was gonna suggest you make the girl an author penning a new story, but that’s too close to real life and I didn’t want him realizing your potential as a stalker) 🙂
THEN…when you get married everyone will want your book that “mirrors” how you met and fell in love–it will be a best seller, trust me:)

    5. Well, since we have already talked about this multiple times, you know I vote “D.” But if things don’t work out, you know I also love Lolo Jones and would find some consolation in that fact for you. However, this secret girlfriend is NOT cool… totally not okay with that.

      1. Oh yes, we’ve already discussed this at length, haven’t we. I foresee many more productive discussions in our future WHEN WE ACTUALLY LIVE IN THE SAME STATE!!!!

    6. I’m still laughing–awesome post!!! I am all about D. Create opportunity. He’ll never know your the awesome writer-wife God created for him unless you have the same doctor and favorite java joint.

    7. Ok, I am going to go out on a limb here and go against the flow. I vote for “A”, except I hesitated for a moment since I did not know who “Lola” is, but I am guessing that Mr. Tebow can figure that all out for himself. Plus, I am not sure if he is good enough for you, Meliisa, because we did not have to bribe you with MacGuyver for you to learn your Awana verses. But I do commend Tim’s parents’ creative use of bribery for a worthwhile goal. So yes, I am sticking with “A”. Nonetheless, if the Lord made it VERY clear that Miss Tagg was to be Mrs. Tebow AND Mr. Tebow was in favor of Miss Tagg keeping Melissa Tagg as her pen name, for sure and for certain, I would love Mr. Tebow as if he were my own son.

    8. Maybe from now on I will have Meliisa…I mean Melissa edit my comments before publishing to see if I can remember how to spell her name. 🙂

      1. Mom, I am pretty sure if you read his book, you would be voting B or D. hehehe…

That’s true, you didn’t have to bribe me to learn the Awana verses…because ummm I was pretty much a goody-two-shoes most of the time. And as much as I like MacGyver, if you had had to bribe me, a Nancy Drew book would’ve been the better enticement. 🙂

    9. Oh, I vote for D.
Go for all your dreams … and let God open and close doors accordingly.
Cheering you on — and wearing my Jets jersey and cheering for Tim Tebow too!

    10. D for sure!!!!!!! You are soooo cute and you and Tim would have the cutest children EVER! And while he brings in all the money, you would have the time to write to your heart’s content!

    11. E–I say Tebow should pursue you. You are a great catch. Besides, he should have the time. He is in the off season. What else does he have to do. 😉 This will leave time for writing which you obviously shouldn’t give up on. Perhaps we can pray God gives him a divine revelation. It happened all the time in the OT. Just remember if you see his manager coming and he asks for a drink of water your line is, “Drink my lord, I’ll draw water for your camels too.”

      1. LOL, Tari. I guess this would be good incentive for me to be better about drinking water. ‘Cause if I’m a healthy little water drinker, I’ll always water with me just in case said manager makes said request for water…always willing to share with the camels, too. 🙂
