Decisions on decisions.

Ever felt tripped up by choices? I have. Like, this week. Like, too many decisions staring me in the face at once…to the point that I freaked out a little trying to choose what to wear to work the other day. I might’ve ended up wearing a sweater I usually wear to bed. Pretty sure no one noticed…pretty sure.

But then I read a verse like this. And I remember, I don’t have to make decisions on my own. Truth is, trying to make the decisions on my own is a little a lot ridiculous. Because there’s Someone bigger and wiser and all sorts of smarter than me here to help.

So one decision just made itself: No more deciding things on my own. 🙂

What’s one of your favorite decision-making verses?

    1. Isaiah 26:3: “You will keep him in perfect peace whose mind in set on you.”

This verse helps me stay focused on the right “Who” instead of all the wrong “Whats.”

    2. I like Beth’s verse, too! But I when I get freaked out about decisions I also go back to Proverbs 16:9: The mind of man plans his ways but the Lord directs His steps.

That helps me remember that even if I veer off course–not out of pride or rebellion or sin but just from making an uninformed or under-informed decision–I can trust Him to bring my steps into His path. Sometimes I forget that, thinking that “my” decisions direct my course when truly if I am His, He’s driving this train. 🙂

      1. Oh, I love what you said, Anne. And honestly, it takes a lot of weight off when we realize, like you said, He’s driving this train. It’s easy to think it’s all up to us and our plans and our follow-through of our plans. But that’s taking on more than we were ever meant to take on, isn’t it?

    3. James 1:5 “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.” This verse reminds me to realign my source of wisdom & direction back to God instead of myself.

    4. Ooo, love your thoughts here, friend!! I know you’ve encouraged me so much this week with decisions I have to make. Love that one you sent me via email yesterday…the one that says he’ll whisper to us which way to go. So comforting!

    5. Matthew 14:27 “But straightway Jesus spake unto them, saying, Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid.

28 And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water.” And He did. And He does . . .

    6. I find it hard to make even the simplest decisions when I’m overly tired, which (by the way) I am.

I like your scripture and I’m so thankful that He is the One in control and not me.

      Love your thoughts today, Melissa!

      1. I’m sorry your overly tired, Cindy. Is that contagious? Because that’s how I’ve felt this week, too. And I think it’s why a pile of smaller decisions has felt so big. 🙂 But like you said, I’m thankful God is in control and I don’t have to make even the smallest decisions on my own.

    7. So many wonderful verses here! A few more:

Proverbs 3:5-6 “Trust in the Lord with all of your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your paths.”

“Behold the steps of a righteous man are ordered by the Lord.” Proverbs 37:23

Proverbs 16:9 “The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps.”

I think this one is really interesting:

Proverbs 6:6-8 “Go to the ant, O sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise. Without having any chief, officer, or ruler, she prepares her bread in summer and gathers her food in harvest.” (This always makes me think of our choice to role up our sleeves instead of always taking the easy way out)

      1. Ooh, Michelle, such good verses…such good thoughts. And that last one…you’re right. We can role up our sleeves and do the work or look for quick fixes and easy shortcuts. But many times the shortcuts don’t get us where we want to be.

        I love Prov. 3:5-6!

    8. Seriously, some days I have so many decisions to make that I kind of freak out when the cashier says: “Will that be paper or plastic?” By that point (usually with a couple of kids in tow who have already asked me a bazillion questions in the store) I have been known to stare at her with a blank face and drool. 🙂

One of my favorite verses is: Ephesians 2:10 “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” He already has the answer to all our questions – and when we know His will (according to His Word) it makes it a little easier to walk on the correct path. The trouble comes when the world screams out so many other options.

I’m praying you have found peace, and a clear path, for the decisions you’ve had to make this week. 🙂

Even though the snow is piling up in my front yard, I am confident that by the end of June it will be perfect weather for your visit! Counting down the days…

      1. Oh Gabe, I can just picture you staring at the check-out clerk! 🙂 LOL. I think sometimes I let myself get overwhelmed with stuff and then I think about women who are moms…and I don’t know how they do it!

Love that verse in Ephesians 2!

I did find peace about a couple things. Some are bigger, wait-it-out kind of decisions…but God has a way of being clear when He wants to be. And I know He will. And in the meantime, my job is to simply listen, right?

I can’t wait until June!!! It hit me today that it’s just a little over three months. The days are flying by!

    9. Wow, I love all the verses here.

When I don’t know which way to go, I always go back to the scripture — John 10:27 The Voice Version..
27 My sheep respond as they hear My voice; I know them intimately, and they follow

I pray, seek God for wisdom and stand on HIS Word.

Gabrielle — I have to say I really did Laugh Out Loud when I read your answer. In fact I’m still laughing. I sooo remember those days! Hah — actually I still have ’em

      1. Alena, I feel like I remember you saying that verse in our room at ACFW one day. You are an amazing example to me of someone who truly DOES stand on His word. I love that about you!
