Amen, yeah?

I love this. I mean, like, love it.

I’ve been thinking about the Holy Spirit this week. Mostly because I’ve been thinking about edits. And editors.

The connection between which may or may not be anywhere close to clear. No worries, I’ll explain next week.

But for now, though, I just wanted to let this quote sit…and simmer…and just maybe, prompt some conversation. So tell me…

Living in the power of the Spirit? Supernatural evidence? What does this quote look like when played out in real life? Your thoughts?

    1. I’m an idealist. I love the idea of an “ideal” life. For me, it’s a life of integrity, hope & blessings – one where nothing is too big or out of reach. It’s a life where people stop and say: “How is that possible? Is it for real? What sets this person apart? Why is this person different?” To live a life in the Spirit, with Supernatural evidence, is to live a life like the one I’ve just stated. When people ask me those questions (which they have), I love to say there is only one answer to each question and His name is Jesus. Supernatural evidence is when we step outside the boundaries of what this life holds, and we grasp onto something Bigger and Better.

      1. Exactly…the key there is “His power,” isn’t it? Because when I try on my own, the change doesn’t last…but when it’s the Holy Spirit working in me, it makes all the difference.

    2. Sometimes I think we think living in supernatural power is parting the Red Sea and “big” stuff like that. But I know that the supernatural evidence of the Holy Spirit in people’s lives that changes me is how they live and love in response to everyday yuck. I want that kind of evidence of the Holy Spirit in my life, the kind that is so simple it stuns others into wanting it, too.

      1. I love your point, Anne. It’s almost easier, I think, to depend on the Holy Spirit’s guidance in those big things…but it’s in the every day stuff–having a good attitude at the office, giving sacrificially of my time, that kind of thing–when I often forget to turn to Him.

    3. I woke up with Holy Spirit zapped big hair? Does that count? 🙂 Kidding.

But without knowing what you’re going to write about next week, I feel so aware of God and His Spirit giving me details and stories and yes, even word choices, that I look back a day or so later and I’m totally thinking, “Who wrote that?” Yeah, it’s a Spirit Thang! And for the record, not a good idea to go to bed with your hair wet. Just not. 🙂

      Happy Friday Melissa!

Can’t imagine trying to do this life without Jesus!! <3 Natural sounds too much like "normal" and who wants normal when you can have SUPER-normal/natural! 🙂

      1. Holy Spirit zapped big hair–ha! Love it!

Oh, and I love those writing moments–and life moments–when you just know what just happened or found its way onto the page wasn’t from you.

    4. I think it means loving, even when someone is unlovable. Hoping and trusting, even when a situation is hopeless. Being positive even when there’s nothing to be positive about.

Essentially, doing the impossible, because God gave us strength to do it through His Holy Spirit. People recognize that you’re different. They see they could never be the way you are or react to a situation the way you can. And when they ask you how you can, that’s when you give all credit to God.

      It’s a beautiful thing. 🙂

(BTW, I’ve never read Francis Chan. Maybe I should!)

    5. A life lived in the Holy Spirit is a life controlled by Jesus. It is living Gal. 2:20 “I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.”

God fills us up each day. Only problem? We leak. Living a life filled with the Holy Spirit is a conscious choice.

    6. Ohhh, I love that quote by Francis Chan! I think the more in tune we are with God (through scripture, prayer, and communing with His son) the more we avail ourselves to the supernatural power of the Holy Spirit. There have been countless times over the years that I know there was no earthly reason for things to happen in my life the way they did except for the explanation of divine intervention.

    7. I loved this book. Francis Chan is great. I think when we let the Holy Spirit run our lives, we act in ways that the world drops a jaw at.

We can laugh and find peace when our loved ones are sick or dying. We can smile and hum in long lines. We have joy at a job that is demanding, ran by bosses who seem like tyrants.

And only those things can be done by the supernatural. 🙂

    8. Cool quote! I definitely think all aspects of our lives (big and small), and by extension, the world around us changes in positive ways when we listen and heed the impressions of the Holy Spirit to our minds and hearts.

    9. I love this book! Our Pastor was teaching Wednesday night about “signs and wonders” and how so many believers want to follow the “signs” – but really, the “signs” should follow US. The Holy Spirit enables us to do much more than we could on our own!

    10. What a timely post. I just recently have encountered the power of the Holy Spirit…it has been amazing. As a worship leader I want the church to see me authentically worshiping my Savior and want Him. I want all He has for me and I see how I have put Him in a box over the last few years. If everyone wanted all our Savior had the church would be unstoppable!!
