So I was thinking with the Super Bowl coming up, I should probably whip out a blog post for folks like me who are totally going to watch the game—’cause it’s the American thing to do and all—but who may not be all that into the sport itself.
Then I was like, wait, I already did that. Last year. Which left me without a blog post idea for today.
But then, something beautiful happened. I learned that this year’s game night is going to include a commercial with the three men from Full House. Remember that show? D.J. and her crazy big hair. Uncle Jesse and his crazy sweet hair. Uncle Joey and his “cut it out” thingy. Jodie Sweetin who is related to someone I went to school with who APPEARED ON THE SHOW. Yeah, I totally know famous people.
Anyhow, in the course of wasting time on the internet investigating this exciting news, I happened to remember that this isn’t the first time some of our friends from Full House have appeared in commercials. In fact, some of them were making the advertising rounds long before they moved into that house in San Francisco.
Sidenote: Did you know those houses featured at the beginning of the Full House credits are called the Painted Ladies? Who knew?
Anyway, let’s start with the ladies of the show. Most of us probably remember Lori Loughlin as Uncle Jesse’s love interest on the show. But before Jesse, it seems Loughlin’s first love…was roast beef. Particularly, Arby’s roast beef…
Speaking of meat, before Candace Cameron was hanging out with Kimmy Gibler and dating the guy who eventually voiced Aladdin, she was oohing and ahhing over fried chicken. She’s super young in this!
Food must really be a thing with these fictional Tanners because check out Jodie Sweetin in an Oscar Meyer commercial.
Now, the Olsen twins who have since gone on to become fashion gurus (i.e. they dress weird and usually look mad) departed from the food commercial pattern and instead, in the early 2000s advertised their own dolls. (But how much of a rip-off is it that you had to buy each twin separately?!)
But possibly the funniest of all the old commercials I came across during this very important internet outing, was this one from John Stamos. Today he may be telling us of the wonders of smooth Greek yogurt…but back in the day, he was concerned with a different kind of smoothness.

Confession: Full House is one of my guilty pleasures. Not only did I grow up watching it, but I still do, and I own all of the seasons on DVD. =) I know it’s awfully cheesy most of the time, but it makes me feel so nostalgic and it does manage to make me laugh (and tear up) pretty often. I *still* want to marry Uncle Jesse. (As long as it’s after the episode where Stephanie cuts off his mullet.)
Those commercials are hilarious! Little DJ and little Stephanie are so adorable.
I won’t be watching the Super Bowl. I’ll probably either be reading or watching something on DVD…Full House episodes, perhaps? =)

Haha, you don’t like Jesse’s mullet? 🙂 Love that you own all the dvds. My favorite thing about rewatching episodes is waiting for the serious music to begin as soon as the “moral of the story” moment hits.

And yeah, I usually go to a Superbowl party and then just eat and talk with friends. I was raised to watch football, and I like it, but don’t have much time to get into it throughout the season, so the SB doesn’t mean much to me. But the food at parties is usually awesome!

I didn’t realize you were a Chiefs fan, Cynthia. I once got really mad at Chiefs fans…I was on my way home from Wichita and right when I was going through K.C., a game had just ended so there was crazy traffic and I was just sitting there on I-35 forever getting angry at all the people around me with Chiefs bumper sticks. LOL!

I am totally watching the Super Bowl. Rooting for the Broncos. Peyton Manning helped secure my Fantasy Football domination this year, which my son never saw coming. (honestly, neither did I, but that’s beside the point.) Between the game and the commercials, it’s a great night.

Yay for fantasy football domination. Of course, now I have to bring up the fact that back when I was reporting I once WON the office football pool and got to hold on to our office football trophy all year. It was awesome. It also made the sports reporter mad. 🙂

Haha, writing the post, that literally took about seven minutes. However, watching all the videos…that used up a wee bit more time. 🙂
All I’ll be watching – if anything – is the end. Unless my state team gets in (which is like, never), I usually head up to my room and watch all those movies no one else wanted to watch with me though I will confess sometimes I check in with the score. It’s kind of “my” tradition every year and if I am tired of watching movies before the INSANELY long game wraps up, then of course, I read. I will be rooting for Denver to win because a.) I like Peyton Manning (my family loves football) and b.) I didn’t appreciate that whole Seahawk “controversy.” Such a difference in post-interviews.
